Golf is one sport where appearance does count. Most courses require that ladies wear shirts with collars (no mid drift showing), pants, shorts, skorts, and shoes with soft spikes.
Shoes — Most courses require soft spikes golf shoes, so if you have any which come with metal spikes, they would need to be replaced with rubberized, plastic ones. You can change the spikes yourself or ask if someone at the pro shop will replace them for you for a nominal fee. Higher-end golf courses will most likely offer the service free to its customers. Shoes are one investment you don't want to skimp on. You will be walking an average of 3-4 miles on an 18-hole golf course. Sore feet are not what you want to worry about as you make the turn after the 9th hole. Be sure to walk, walk, walk around the store before you buy. If it doesn't feel totally comfortable, try another pair.
Sandals ---Appearing in a few stores, and online, you can find golf sandals to wear on hot days. The sole is similar to a golf shoe and can be worn without socks. Thongs with golf soles are also being put out by some manufacturers.
Winter Wear — Winter styling for golf wear has improved in appearance over the years. And fabrics come in various weights and colors too. You won't go wrong with waterproof lightweight pants and jackets. You can wear them over your non-waterproof wear, or wear it as your main outfit. Be sure to layer your clothing for winter play as the weather can turn from good to bad (and vice versa) during the day.
Spring, Summer Wear — Lightweight pants, shorts and skorts are available for sunny days. The convenience of skorts is that they look like skirts, but wear like shorts. You can go from the golf course to a restaurant without feeling like you have to change outfits. More and more golf courses offer women's clothing in the golf shop...but be ready to pay full price with the course emblem embroidered or printed on them. Keep an eye on sales (late winter and spring will have winter clothes as specials, while fall and winter will offer last spring and summer clothes). You will find women's golf clothes at various shops too: Liz Claiborne, Izod, Nike are a few. Look out for sales on golf shoes as well. You will most likely find the style you want at a golf course pro shop so if you can't live without it, purchase it when you find it as their inventory on women's items are not huge.
Headwear---Hats, visors, sunglasses. Be sure to use them for protection. Hats worn in the winter help you hold in heat and keep your head from getting wet from the rain. Hats and visors worn in the summer shade your eyes, helping you see as you continue down the fairway. Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection help your eyes from getting sun damage.
