Korean Style Short Ribs (Joyce's Kalbi Marinade)
Delicious BBQ short ribs.

5-6 lbs Korean-style short ribs (about 30 pieces of beef chuck flank, cut 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick across the bone.  These can be purchased at Korean markets.

1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup Mirin (sweet Korean or Japanese rice wine) or sweet sherry
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed down
1/4 cup sesame oil
3 cups water

Mix above ingredients together.  Set aside

Grind in a blender the following ingredients and add to soy sauce mixture.  Whisk well to blend.

1 whole kiwi, peeled (acts as a meat tenderizer)
1 whole white onion
5-6 stalks green onions
15+ cloves of garlic

Place ribs in several heavy-duty resealable bags and divide marinade to each bag.  Turn bag over several times to coat the ribs evenly.  Refrigerate overnight.

Take bags out to set at room temperature.  Preheat gas grill and then set temperature to High.  Discard marinade and grill ribs until browned and medium done.  Approximate time on the grill is 3-4 minutes per rib.  Serves about 8 people.
